An Unforgettable Tree House Stay Experience in Chitwan
Tree House Overnight Stay in the Jungle of Chitwan – An Unforgettable Wildlife Experience
If you’ve ever dreamed of truly immersing yourself in nature—falling asleep to the sounds of the jungle and waking up to birdsong in the heart of a national park—then an overnight stay in a tree house in Chitwan National Park is exactly what you need. My partner and I had the incredible opportunity to experience this on a 2-night trip to Chitwan, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable adventures we’ve ever had.
Day 1: Arrival and Exploring the Local Life
Our journey began with a warm welcome at our lodge in Chitwan. The staff was incredibly friendly and made sure we were settled in comfortably. After a short briefing about the trip and safety protocols, we went for a walk around the nearby Tharu village. This short village tour gave us a great introduction to the local culture and lifestyle. The slow pace of the village, the traditional homes, and the hospitality of the locals made for a peaceful and authentic start to our jungle experience.
Day 2: Canoeing, Jungle Walk, Jeep Safari, and Into the Wild
The second day was packed with activities—and excitement. We started early with a canoe trip along the Rapti River. The silence of the canoe ride was broken only by the sound of paddles slicing through the water and the occasional birdcall. Along the riverbanks, we spotted crocodiles basking in the morning sun, various bird species, and even a few deer cautiously approaching the water. It was a gentle and calming way to begin our jungle day.
After the canoeing, we continued on foot for a jungle walk. Here’s where things got wild—literally. Midway through the walk, the weather took a dramatic turn. What started as a calm trek turned into an intense storm that felt like a mix of a windstorm, sandstorm, and heavy rain all at once. Visibility dropped, trees were swaying violently, and at one point we even saw one come crashing down. It felt like a scene straight out of a video game or an adventure movie.
Despite the chaos, we never felt unsafe. Our guide was incredible—calm, experienced, and completely focused on our safety. He knew how to read the environment and guided us carefully through the storm. On the way, we saw wildlife reacting to the sudden weather—monkeys scrambling up trees, deer darting into the bush, birds flying low for shelter. Nature was in motion, and we were right in the middle of it. It was both humbling and exhilarating.
Once we reached the jungle tree house (or jungle tower as some call it), the storm had subsided. The structure stood solid and secure among the trees, and although it was far from a hotel, it had its own rustic charm. It was clean, well-maintained, and equipped with basic but essential amenities like drinking water, a toilet, and simple meals. We were amazed by how comfortable we were, considering we were deep in the jungle.
That evening, we sat on the balcony of the tree house, watching the river flow quietly, the sky turning shades of orange and purple as the sun set behind the jungle canopy. The peace and quiet were unlike anything we’d experienced before. We chatted with our guide about the day’s adventures, the jungle ecosystem, and his many stories from years of working in Chitwan. It felt like we were part of something very special—connected to nature in a way that’s hard to describe.
Day 3: A Morning Surprise and Departure
The next morning started with an unforgettable moment. Just after dawn, as we were sipping tea and preparing for the walk back, we caught sight of something moving through the tall grass in the distance. Our guide quickly raised his binoculars and confirmed it—a tiger. We held our breath and watched in silent awe. It was a fleeting moment, but absolutely magical.
On the walk back to the main lodge, we encountered even more wildlife: rhinos grazing, peacocks calling from the treetops, and monkeys playfully swinging from the branches. After arriving at the lodge, we had a hearty breakfast and packed up for our departure.
Final Thoughts
This 2-night trip, with one night in the lodge and one in the jungle tree house, was the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. The tree house experience in particular was unlike anything else—raw, authentic, and deeply connected to nature. While it doesn’t offer the luxuries of a resort, it offers something much rarer: the chance to truly feel the jungle, with all its beauty, power, and unpredictability.
For anyone who loves wildlife, nature, and unique experiences, we can’t recommend this enough. Whether you’re a photographer, a nature enthusiast, or simply someone looking to step out of the ordinary, the tree house stay in Chitwan will stay with you forever.
