Overview
Bardia National Park is Nepal’s largest protected wilderness in the Terai region, covering 968 sq. km of dense sal forest, tall grassland, and river floodplains. It’s significantly less visited than Chitwan — meaning fewer tourists, more authentic encounters, and wildlife that hasn’t been numbed by daily crowds.
The Karnali River forms the park’s western boundary. Gharial crocodiles bask on its sandbars. Gangetic dolphins surface in the shallows. At dawn, mist hangs low over the grasslands as herds of spotted deer move through the tree line — and somewhere in the deep forest, tigers are always moving.
This 3 Night 4 Day package covers all core experiences: guided jungle walks, full-day jeep safari, canoe rides on the Karnali, tiger tracking, birdwatching, Tharu village immersion, elephant and crocodile breeding center visits, and a traditional Tharu cultural dance performance.

Practical Information
Best Time to Visit
October to April is ideal. Autumn (September–November) delivers clear skies, moderate temperatures, and excellent wildlife visibility after the monsoon floods recede. Spring (February–May) brings blooming sal forests and strong tiger sightings as animals move toward water sources. Avoid June–September (monsoon season — park partially closes).
Climate & Weather
Bardia’s Terai climate is tropical. Summers hit 35–45°C with high humidity. Winters are dry with cool nights around 10–15°C and dense morning fog. Annual rainfall averages 1,400mm, mostly during monsoon.
Accommodation
3-star jungle resort or lodge in the park buffer zone. Rooms include AC, hot water, WiFi, and room service. Select resorts have swimming pools. Your specific accommodation is confirmed at booking.
How to Get There
- Fly Kathmandu to Nepalgunj (approx. 55 minutes, NPR 6,000–11,000 one way)
- Then jeep or bus from Nepalgunj to Thakurdwara gate (approx. 3 hours)
- Overnight bus from Kathmandu to Bardiya also available (approx. 18 hours, NPR 3,000)
- Thakurdwara is the main entrance gate to Bardia National Park
Park Entry Fee
NPR 2000 per person (included in the package). Children receive discounts. Fee is payable at the park counter.
Difficulty Level
Beginner. No trekking fitness required. Most activities are jeep-based. Jungle walks are on flat terrain at a moderate pace. Maximum walking distance: 5–10 km per day. Suitable for children, older adults, and first-time wildlife tourists.
Food & Cuisine
Terai cuisine is distinct from the rest of Nepal. Staples include Dal-Bhat (lentil soup with rice), fresh river fish, and Ghongi (river snails). Resorts also serve continental and Indian dishes. Most travelers prioritize trying fresh fish preparations — a regional specialty not easily found elsewhere in Nepal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How many tigers and rhinos can I expect to see?
Bardia is home to approximately 56 Royal Bengal Tigers and 67 One-horned Rhinos. Sightings are never guaranteed in wild jungle. However, Bardia’s low visitor numbers and intact habitat give significantly higher chances of natural, unscripted encounters than more crowded parks. Your guide’s tracking expertise substantially improves the odds.
Q2. Can I bring children on this tour?
Yes. Bardia is one of Nepal’s most family-friendly wildlife destinations. Most activities are jeep-based and jungle walks are on flat terrain. Children receive discounts on park entry fees and tend to remember a wild tiger sighting for life.
Q3. What’s the difference between Bardia and Chitwan?
Chitwan is Nepal’s most famous wildlife park but receives far more tourists. Bardia is larger, more remote, and significantly less visited — which means more authentic wildlife encounters with animals that haven’t been habituated to constant human presence. If you want Chitwan’s wildlife without the Chitwan crowds, Bardia is the answer.
Q4. Is travel insurance required?
Not mandatory, but strongly recommended. Bardia is remote — the nearest major hospital is in Nepalgunj, approximately 3 hours away. Travel insurance covering medical evacuation provides meaningful protection in the event of illness, injury, or flight disruption.
Q5. In which province is Bardia National Park located?
Bardia National Park is in Lumbini Province in Nepal’s far-western Terai. It covers 968 sq. km and borders the Karnali River to the west and India’s Katerniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary to the south.
Q6. What is the cancellation and refund policy?
If you cancel early, your deposit can be transferred to any other trip in our portfolio. Late cancellations incur a processing fee. Full refunds are assessed case by case. We recommend canceling as early as possible if plans change.
Q7. Can the itinerary be customized?
Yes. We can extend the trip to 6 Nights/7 Days for deeper exploration, add a Karnali rafting day, combine with a Lumbini (Buddha’s birthplace) visit, or adjust activity focus based on your interests — photography, birding, culture. Contact us to design a tailored package.
